Image Charles Walts commissioned me for the construction of a two-foot diameter replica of The Invaders Flying Saucer as seen in the 1967 TV series created by Larry Cohen, staring Roy Thinnes and produced by Quinn-Martin Productions. I'm excited about this project, Charles has a real appreciation for the show, and it was a childhood inspiration.

Research
Thursday, April 19, 2007. Research Phase begins with the investigation of the original model-kit accuracy. The flying saucer is a design derivative of that shown in the contestable photographs of George Adamski, but instead of having three spheres on the underside, the Invaders' saucer has five shallower protrusions.

Thus far, one technical challenge was deciding how to build the "saucer shape." I really wanted a solid shape, keeping the process as "green" as possible (low environmental impact). I prefer not to use fiberglass, polyester resins, and other nasty chemicals, and as little filler as possible. I really wanted the saucer shape cut out of a flat sheet of Sintra or Styrene sheet so that it would have persistent integrity. Therefore, with the aid of my "math-wiz" wife, we resorted to Trigonometry to solve the problem, and discovered several sources on the web, finally utilizing this one.
